Leveraging Population and Temporal Heterogeneity to Model Risk and Progression in Neurologic Disease

Dr. De Jager will discuss ongoing projects that seek to map the sequence of events that link genetic risk for a disease to a clinical syndrome, with an emphasis on the immune system’s involvement in neurodegenerative diseases including multiple sclerosis and cognitive aging.
For these diseases that develop over years to decades, the propagation of molecular events from genetic risk and environmental risk factors remain poorly understood. We are enumerating these events and how the effect of different variants converge over time. Further, we’ll discuss efforts to map inter-individual sources of variation and the effect of senescence to better resolve disease-related processes.
