Cystic fibrosis (CF) patients develop exacerbated airway inflammation and chronic infections by the Gram-negative pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This study evaluates how PTEN, a phosphatase with anti-tumor function, regulates airway defenses against P. aeruginosa. The finding that CF patients lack PTEN activity open the possibility for this tumor suppressor as a new target to control the inflammatory disease caused by P. aeruginosa.
