Join us for a talk with Dr. Doug Plessinger, RPh, who will talk about the US-Cuba cooperation on clinical trials of cancer drug.
Dr. Plessinger is is the chief clinical and scientific development officer at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Chief Operating Officer for the GBCT. His fields of expertise include oncology and hematology, and he has been deeply involved in the CIM-Roswell Park Collaboration.
Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center began working with scientists at the Cuban Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM) in Havana, Cuba, in 2011. In late 2016 Roswell Park received permission from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct an early stage clinical trial with CIMAvax and has a license from the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) that permits preclinical and clinical research on the drug which has been used to treat more than 5,000 patients worldwide. CIMAvax may also prove effective in treating other types of cancer. The CIM-Roswell Park project is an example of successful US-Cuban collaboration.
The talk will be held on October 3rd, 2018 from 6-8pm in room 802 in the International Affairs Building (420 West 118th Street – Between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Drive).
