Please join the Ukrainian Film Club at Columbia University and the Harriman Institute for a work-in-progress screening of director David Gutnik's 2022 feature documentary Rule of Two Walls. Introduction and discussion led by Professor Yuri I. Shevchuk.
The unprovoked and brutal all-out Russian aggression against Ukraine on February 24, 2022 spurred many people around the world into action. Rarely was the world public opinion so unanimous in its condemnation of the aggressor and its desire to help protect the country that had chosen to build a free and democratic society after centuries of genocidal foreign occupation. Ukrainian-American filmmaker David Gutnik was among the first to rush to the land of his ancestors armed with his camera in order to document history as it unfolded. The logline of his feature documentary reads: "With their country at war, a community of Ukrainian artists embarks on a quest of faith, identity and resistance." Come and watch David Gutnik's dramatic document of the Ukrainian resistance, courage, and love of freedom that captivated the imagination of the world. Discuss with the filmmaker his experience shooting the war and its impact on peaceful civilians. Be the first to see this important record of the events that have forever changed European and world history. This film is in English and Ukrainian with English subtitles where needed.
