The Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute and CUMC Department of Ophthalmology's 2nd annual Precision Ophthalmology meeting will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017. The theme of this year's event is "Fighting Pediatric Blindness: From Bench to Bedside." The content of the meeting is intended to shine a light on pediatric vision care from a multi-disciplinary perspective. The mixture of basic and clinical science is a key feature of the meeting, and one that most effectively advances the mission of Jonas Children's Vision Care to help children lead healthy lives, with clear vision. Ultimately it will be the collaborative efforts of clinicians, scientists, educators, and advocates that will achieve these goals.
The Jonas Children's Vision Care will be introduced during the meeting and is a new, multi-faceted initiative with the overarching goal of preventing blindness and treating vision disorders in children. Its key components include patient care, education, scientific research, and advocacy. It is jointly sponsored by the Barbara and Donald Jonas Family Fund and the Department of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Medical Center.
Also on program for the one day meeting, Irene H. Maumenee, MD (Columbia University Medical Center), will deliver The Inaugural Jonas Lecture - "The Role of Genetic Testing in Pediatric Ophthalmology" and Martin Friedlander, MD, PhD (Scripps Research Institute), will deliver the talk, "Neurovascular Disease in the Eye: Do We Really Want to Bash Blood Vessels with Anti-angiogenics" for the 19th Annual Arthur Gerard Devoe Lecture.
