Enzo Lazzaro Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) "Effects of Rotation and nonlinear Processes in Control of Tearing Modes by ECCD" Plasma toroidal rotation can be driven by external momentum sources and affected by radial plasma transport due to neoclassical processes, as well as microturbulence-induced anomalous transport, usually considered in an ad hoc manner. In addition, plasma toroidal rotation can be affected by 3D, non-axisymmetric intrinsic or external magnetic field perturbations. Here a short discussion is proposed of mechanisms of drive and effects of plasma rotation, associated with high rf power deposition (and specifically Electron Cyclotron Heating and Current Drive ECH/ECCD), for the purpose of tearing modes control. First principles physics considerations help in classifying the possible cause and effect relations. Aspects of the cross-talk of plasma rotation and tearing modes are singled out for their relevance in the context of stability control. Host: Andrew Cole
