Presented by Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health FORWARD Community Engagement Action Corps and the Community Health Collaborative (CHEC), The NYC Voices Community Film Festival aims to encourage creativity in communicating about public health issues that are important to our local New York City communities through storytelling, digital media, and the belief that we all have a story to tell!
Please join us for an evening of storytelling as we celebrate New York City voices through a selection of films created and submitted by community members, as well as a feature documentary presentation and Q&A.
Feature Film Screening: The Skin You're In: Addressing Racial Health Inequities, a docufilm series that follows a Brooklyn neighborhood as one of its central stories while examining why Black Americans live sicker and die younger than other groups in the U.S., tracing the health impact of the legacy of slavery and ongoing racial segregation.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film's Writer/Director, Thomas LaVeist, PhD, Dean of Tulane's Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, alongside Community Health Advocates!
