Join us for a talk with Elizabeth Cohn, RN, PhD, a finalist for the Heritage Research Investigator in Translational Medicine Award. Her work focuses on the intersection of genomic medicine and health equity for underserved and underrepresented populations. Her mission and methods advocate for inclusion, representation and community empowerment to strengthen science and improve population health. Her work in collaboration with state and federal agencies, academics and key community members has provided the foundation for initiatives to reduce health disparities through precision medicine.
For precision medicine to achieve its ultimate goals of targeted and specific care that improves health for all equally, our studies must reflect the rich diversity of our nation. Based on experiences with the All of Us Research Study, both here and at the national level, and genetic and genomic research focused specific on diseases that disproportionately affect minorities this seminar will review innovative techniques for engagement, enrollment, recruitment and retention. Tools for precision recruitment including the development of Participant Persona’s; flexible “scripts” for approaching potential participants using mediation tools; and a review of best practices for Participant Advisory Boards will be presented.
