"Computational systems biology offers a powerful framework for the analysis of genome-wide molecular measurements generated by modern high-throughput genomics technologies. In this talk we will take a closer look at network systems biology, discussing tools developed by investigators at Columbia University’s Department of Systems Biology. These include algorithms for reconstructing network models of regulation from large scale transcriptomic data and for interrogating these networks to identify master regulators of cell-state transition and the mechanism of action of compound perturbations. Finally, we will demonstrate how these approaches have been used to facilitate discoveries in cancer research. This presentation has a dual objective: first, to explain (at a high level) the key methodological underpinnings of some widely adopted network biology analysis approaches; and second, to showcase their power through case studies that have led to high-impact publications.
